NaNo2018: 7 weeks and counting
Ready to Rock?
NaNo2018 is only seven weeks away and this time will fly by, so – if you are keen to use Scrivener for NaNo2018 – now is the time to start learning how.
What is NaNo?
NaNo, short for NaNoWriMo, is the National Novel Writers Month.
Writers all over the world spend the 30 days of November writing the first 50K words of their novel. Some aim higher. 80K. 100K!
The NaNoWriMo website doors are already open so now the fun starts. We need to plan what to write, and to come to grips with Scrivener.
What is Scrivener?
Scrivener is a sophisticated tool that provides an ideal writing environment. Everything for one project is in one file, and you have the option to compile into a number of formats. It offers a seamless transition from your initial idea to your finished book.
This time in 2015, Scrivener was new to me; I was a Scrivener ‘virgin’. Now, as ScrivenerVirgin, I can lead you through the features that work so well for writers.
Whether you are using Scrivener 2 or Scrivener 3, on a Mac or on a PC, I’m here to help you.
What’s on the menu?
In the run-up to 1 November, I’ll be publishing a series of blog posts – plus hosting free webinars – to help you to prepare for NaNo2018:
- Creating a new project file and setting up a Story folder
- Creating your cast of Characters
- Deciding on your world: inventing Places
- Using the Corkboard to design the structure of your novel
- Using Label and Status and other metadata features
- Research folder to file the results of your research so you have them to hand when it comes to writing your novel
- Using the Outliner to set Targets for each scene: and to keep track of your progress during NaNoWriMo 2017
Seven weeks of planning – and learning to master Scrivener – without writing a single word!
Simply Scrivener Special (SSS) webinars
The free weekly SSS webinars continue on Tuesdays at 7.30pm and are perfect for those wanting to master Scrivener ahead of this year’s NaNo. Book your place here.
Note that the series of 8 sessions starting on 16 October focus more on NaNo than just Scrivener: 60 mins Q&A on all things NaNo.
If you plan to take part in NaNo2018 but have no intention of using Scrivener, that’s fine. Your choice. But you might like a reminder about how NaNoWriMo works … or, if it’s your first NaNoWriMo, an explanation of what lies ahead. So, come along on 16 October and ask away.
NaNo webinars
I am ML (Municipal Liaison!) for the county of Cornwall in the UK and was ML for both Devon and Cornwall for several years, a few years back.
As well as the usual face-to-face meetings for my region, I offer online support, not just for writers who live in Cornwall but regardless of where you live. I do this through my free NANO webinars:
Join my NaNo2018 team
One of the strengths of NaNoWriMo is how much support writers give to each other. Wherever you are in the world, you should join your local NaNoWriMo region and attend face-to-face meetings arranged by your local ML.
And, you could join this online Facebook group for my NaNo2018 team. At the last count there were 92 of us. See you there!
